The Gaskets - Easy Life

October 26th, 2004 by Rachelandthecity

This track was sent to me by Ted Blanks, a member of the 2-man synth pop band The Gaskets. I have recieved a few submissions in the past - but to date this is the only one that made me grin like the cat who has just realized he has woken up with opposable thumbs. This track is from their upcoming album, made in collaboaration with David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven. ‘… and this is an early track… not mastered, but we feel good about it’, David wrote. Well, if this isn’t mastered then i simply must hear the completed mix down.

Overall, these guys have a marvelous sense of humor, in their lyrics and in their effectively layered music - creating a sound that becomes suprisingly large at times but holding fast to the wit. Ya ought give ‘em a listen, and if you dig these two tracks, they have more available on their website. Oh and did I mention silly? If not…then silly silly silly, but with a good dose of grey matter.

Big ups boys - me like!

They’re so my new favorite band. Largehearted Boy had them linked the other day (but without commentary). Gaskets, if you’re reading this, come to Athens (GA).
