Build an Ark - Always There

November 22nd, 2004 by Rachelandthecity

Build an Ark is a gathering of Los Angeles musicians and vocalists led by hip-hop producer Carlos Nino, who is also one half of Ammon Contact. Nino and jazz vocalist Dwight Trible started the group to promote peace and love in the days after 9/11. And peace and love are what the first Build an Ark album, “Peace with Every Step,” is all about. It’s earthy, soulful, spiritual music that owes much to cats like Sun Ra and Pharaoh Sanders (covers of songs by both appear on the album).

Check out “Always There,” a semi-cover of the old Ronnie Laws jazz-funk standard. The band and backup singers vamp the hook, while everyone takes turns shouting out names of old jazz luminaries (”Always there … Billy Higgins!!!”).

EDITOR’S NOTE: reposted cause I effed up the link…

Is it really necessary to place blame?

It’s not about placing blame. Just wanted to make sure I’m doing it right …

Dude, I was just kidding! It was totally my fault - of course!
