Amon Tobin - El Cargo
When I found Amon Tobin’s latest release, I about lost control of my “woohoo” gland! Being a huge fan of Mr Tobin, I was a little concerned when I got wind, sometime back, that he was working on a soundtrack for a video game. What was I thinking? Why was I worried? This is an amazing release and a must have for all Amon lovers - hell, electronica lovers! The soundtrack in question is for Tom Clancy’s ‘Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory’ (released via Ninja Tune) - and it’s a tough, driving, wrap around you head bit of work - the music that is. Amon has yet to disappoint me. His layered, dark cinematic approach to music is deeply captivating and complex. Only makes sense that he was signed up to do a soundtrack, as most of his works have an uncanny knack for painting a scene as is.
“It quickly became clear that Ubisoft was interested in music that completely intertwined with the overall fabric of Tom Clancy’s SplinterCell Chaos Theory to an extent that has not been heard before in video games - the development team members are true perfectionists, and we labored meticulously over every aspect of the sound design,”said Tobin. “No concessions were made that would compromise the integrity of the soundtrack, and that’s rare in a project of this scale.”
