Fischerspooner - Just Let Go (Thin White Duke Remix)

January 30th, 2005 by Rachelandthecity

Like most of us out there, I’ve heard Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock” from their forthcoming release, “Human After All.” Now, when I first listened to “Homework” eh, nine years ago (man, it’s been that long?) I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever heard. Then when Discovery was released, I was disappointed, to say the least.

Like most of us out there, I’m hoping that the version of “Robot Rock” I’ve got is some kind of record industry ruse, and the real thing’s going to be a lot better. Otherwise, I’m giving up on Thomas and Guy-Manuel. Mark my words. Shame on you Daft Punk!

Instead, I’m focusing my attention back on Fischerspooner and awaiting the April release of their second LP, “Odyssey.” After listening to this mix of their first single, “Just Let Go,” I think the decision is in my best interest.

I’m not quite sure how you could have missed Fischerspooner in 2002 when the club anthem “Emerge” was the only lasting effect of the blink-and-you-missed-it electroclash ¡revival! or ¡insurgence! when NME called FS the “best thing to happen to music since electricity” but if you did, it’s time to catch up.

As with acts like, say, The Polyphonic Spree the true beauty of Fischerspooner is in the live performance, but their self-representation in the studio (check out their first album, #1) is equally spectacular. Founded in New York by classically-trained musician Warren Fischer and visual artist Casey Spooner, Fischerspooner has grown to over 20 members since its inception in 1998. The stage show is quite the spectacle, I’ve been told, characterized by theatrical antics, grandiose visual imagery and elaborate costuming, and is better described as an “experience” than as a “concert.”

If “Just Let Go” is any indication, this album will disprove any detractors’ jeers that Fischerspooner’s a gimmick or a fad. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that come April 5 when this album drops, it’ll do its part in insuring that the next ELECTROCLASH REVIVAL INSURGENCE MOVEMENT lasts more than 15 minutes.

And to Daft Punk: I meant what I said.
