Neko Case - If You Knew

January 29th, 2005 by Rachelandthecity

More protest songs today. These are from the excellent live recording from Neko Case entitled The Tigers Have Spoken and was recorded at Schubas in Chicago, Lee’s Palace in Toronto, and The Matador in Toronto in March/April 2004. Backed by The Sadies (not your average surf, garage, country, rock band!), Case has been called the alt-country answer to old-country legends Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Case’s voice is a slightly twangy husky growl and the music is a cross pollination of soulful country with a dash of surf rock guitar parts. And that, my friends, is my best imitation of music writer speak.

The sometime New Pornographers‘ frontwoman is currently working on a studio album for release this year. Though according to recent interviews, she’s really not in any hurry to finish it. Catch her live this February:
