Dwarves - Fefu
Dammit, Blag. Why is it that you put out this song in a year where I mostly wasn’t even paying attention to music? Well, the good news for you is that I paid attention to this song. Dwarves fans recoil in horror at this song because to those who’ve been with the band a while, they can’t believe they’re still putting out records after all this time — the trail of blood left behind at their shows (their own), the pornosexual stage act, the empty vials of crack left in their wake and the bassists who disappear after smoking their contents… I personally haven’t even heard The Dwarves Must Die because I’ve been too busy trying to abolish the memory of the infamous faked death prank by guitarist He Who Cannot Be Named instigated to poke fun at Tupac Shakur (whom, as we all know, is alive and well and living on his own island — which, by the way Dre, ‘pac got by the year 2G). Since Sub Pop didn’t find that joke funny, they dropped them. But did these Dwarves quit? OH, HELL NO. Since I frequently ignore the indie press when deciding stuff to recommend, I’m gonna tell you to check out The Dwarves Must Die just based on this song alone. Oh sure, it’s punk rock, but it’s got some pop to it. Oh sure, Nick Oliveri from Queens of the Stone Age and Dexter Holland from The Offspring are on the record. Oh sure, the lyrics are filthy, vile, angry stuff. But if you wanted songs about love, peace, and hair grease, American Idol’s new season has finally arrived. Sadly, songs that “wanna fuck, eat, and fuck you up” didn’t make the top 16 show.
