Ardent Sessions: John Paul Keith and the One Four Fives

Twizzle - Falling

March 29th, 2005 by Rachelandthecity

There isn’t a lot written on the meloncholy-delic dreamsters, Twizzle, but there should be. All I really can say is this is one of the most refreshing releases I have run across in some months. Dreamy vocals atop a laid back blend of organic instruments, mild percussion, and an ever so light smattering of samples. Their lovely debut EP (1999), Soda Fountain, is a ride on a carousel adorned with not quite right but whimsical animals and some spooky, yet lovable, guy at the controls. Every song is thick with an undeniable wit and that warm-n-fuzzy charm. They are 50’s-esque and full of homemade goodness - ya know, the kind mom used to make. This EP is available for free over at Comfort Stand.

Oh, and a note on Comfort Stand: If you don’t know much about this Netlabel and enjoy the different side of the muscial world in all it wonderous quirks, ya really oughta go there and hang around for a bit. It was started by two producers who put together an Exotica compilation, bringing along over 30 artists. It took off … I mean really took off. Comfort Stand is “a community-driven label where all releases are free with artwork and liner notes.”

And I really enjoy what they say about Netlabels….

“Some may have difficulty accepting an organization without a tangible product (in terms of CDs, records and/or merchandise for sale) as a ‘real’ label. We understand that labels are traditionally comprised of artists with physical product, but see ourselves as part of a new wave of record labels with a (still somewhat) new distribution method.”

Nuff said - Now go check out Twizzle’s EP, and have a dreamy day.
