Sugary sweet and cute enough to make Pee Wee Herman’s set designers go into sugar shock - Hazel Nuts Chocolate. This being their first album, Bewitched, is the definition of “happy foolish charming dance music” - a term coined by Yasuharu Konishi of Pizzicato Five. The “happy” element is self-explanatory, the “charm” element includes things that endear the song to the listener, and “fool” element encompasses conscious silliness. And OHHH Nelly are these kids silly.

I’ll have to admit that I really couldn’t find much on Hazel Nuts Chocolate, but I can tell you that if you have any sense of humor and enjoy being slapped silly with cartoon effects, bouncy melodies, that electronic-happy-go-lucky feeling, and cutsie chicks vocalizing in way that only the best of sci-fi-girls can - then ya really ought to give them an ear. Taking lyrics from Childrens books, totally hooked on outer space, and even taking an out of the blue trip into blue grass - this has become one of the most additive albums in my collection.
