Husky Rescue - Summertime Cowboy
Some bands have it all: an overwhelming aesthetic revealed in everything from their half-smiles and blue eyes to their stories and the perfect, haunting quality of their sound.
Many times, though, it seems almost to be the place that makes the music, and when you think about what a place like Helsinki should produce, what better answer can you have than Husky Rescue? Husky Rescue is the brain-child of Marko Nyberg and has been conceptualized through incorporating around 20 of Helsinki’s most talented musicians into studio sessions, for the group’s 2004 Country Falls debut, that are said to be no more or less stunning than the live performances of the five piece version.
20 year old lead singer Reeta-Leena Karhola lends an easy, soft vocal which effortlessly blends a certain bossa nova feel with the gentle twangs of classic country influence. The cinematic electro-country music behind her is equally easy and gauzy, not to mention hopelessly, sweetly sexy. No wonder the Finns are great in bed, if this is what they listen to all the time.
Essentially, though, Country Falls is a bitter-sweet soundtrack to watch paperwhites break snow to. If this doesn’t sound somehow appealing to you, you probably don’t have the romantic sensibilities to appreciate this kind of composition.
