The Color Cast - Dancing Upstairs

April 25th, 2005 by Rachelandthecity

My music scene is better than your music scene. Don’t believe me? Do you have 12 hour free music festivals in parking lots behind dive bars with 15 bands and $20 all you can drink beer busts? Yep. Didn’t think so. But that’s exactly what happened yesterday when every band in Memphis with any kind of a following got together to play a benefit for the American Cancer Society and The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

The weather was excellent, everyone was trashed and having a hell of a time. I believe they made quite a bit of money too! By the time I left last night at 11:30 19 kegs of beer had been tapped and there were still three bands scheduled to play. Unfortunately, I was pretty sure that if I didn’t call it a night, I’d be walking home rather than driving. The good news is I got to see the set by the excellent band The Color Cast early enough in the afternoon that I actually remember it! This track is off a three song EP, but if I remember correctly they’re heading into the studio this week to finish up their highly anticipated debut White City Sounds.

The Color Cast have that whole Cure, Interpol, Echo and the Bunnymen comparison going on. But hey, I like those bands so, I think it’s a compliment. You can check out their MYSPACE PROFILE to download more songs and make them your bitch. If you live in Memphis you can come check them out live at The Hi-Tone on May 6th. I’ll be there starfucking I’m sure…
