De Novo Dahl - All Over Town

What do you do when you’re a straight-forward power pop band, but you also really wanna make people shake that azz? Maybe you’re sitting in the studio messing around and start coming up with remixes of your songs. But then you can’t decide which versions you like better. What to do, what to do? Well, I guess you could just put out a double album, one of the rock and one of the remixes and call it Cats & Kittens.

Nashville based De Novo Dahl descibe themselves as a psychodelic claymation art core pop extravaganza. Influenced by everyone from David Bowie to The Beach Boys to Stevie Wonder, Super Furry Animals, The Kinks, Blur and Supergrass, the 6 peice has just released their major label debut to rave reviews. Personally, I’d almost call them an American version of Dogs Die in Hot Cars because of the mix of fun songs with intellectual and witty lyrics sprinkled with a little bit of sarcasm. De Novo Dahl are also very well-known for their live shows which may include anything from themed outfits, audience participation to spaghetti dinners.

I first was enthralled by De Novo Dahl after hearing the Jeff Buckley homage Memphis off their self-titled EP. It chronicles the writers trek to the site of Buckley’s death on the banks of the Mississippi. It’s still my favorite De Novo Dahl song, but the new album is definitely growing on me. You can stream more songs from the new record on the official website and make them your friend on their Myspace Profile.
