Memphis is a lot of things, so before I say anything about Hustle & Flow, I want you to realize that just like your city, my city can’t be pigeonholed into being any one thing. Memphis is filled with rich people, poor people, cosmopolitans, rednecks, hipsters, big buisiness, rap sensations, good ole country folk, x-hollywood types, and lots of history. That being said, this film is definitely an interestig slice of the story. It’s hard for me to be objective because I worked as the APOC on the film last summer. Just like it’s hard for some people to listen to their own recorded voice, it’s hard for me not to pick out the flaws and imagine how it could have been better.

The film is a little bit of a cliche, but if you can get past that, then you’ll enjoy buying into the hero’s quest to make something better out of his life while he still has time. Everybody’s gotta have a dream.
