It’s time again for a new record from Canadian supergroup the New Pornographers featuring the talents of Zumpano’s A.C. Newman, The Evaporators’ John Collins, Destroyer’s Dan Bejar, cartoonist/filmmaker Blaine Thurier, drummer Kurt Dahle, guitarist Todd Fancey and alt-country sensation Neko Case. Guest vocalists include Chicago based country singer Nora O’Connor and keyboardist Kathryn Caulder.

The new album Twin Cinema is anything but straight forward power pop. Neko Case’s vocals sound like they were lifted from a 60’s folk album, while the music still feels contemporary. The songs that populate the album are more soundscapes that paint a picture than tell a story. If you’re into it, there might be a few more songs available on their official website. Look for the New Pornographers to kick off a tour in September with Caulder, who happens to be the long lost neice of Newman, on keyboards and her own band The Immaculate Machine and Destroyer opening. Twin Cinema is due for release August 23rd.
