Ardent Sessions: What Made Milwaukee Famous

Aqueduct - Growing Up With GNR

October 12th, 2005 by Rachelandthecity

If you’re like me and the sight of a raven wrapped in red yarn staring off longingly, but remaining content in his discontent sets your heart all aflutter, then I could probably list a rundown of some other bands you are probably into. But what about Mr Gibbard himself? What music makes his heart skip a beat? Well, if the urban legend is true, while touring with some side project in Oklahoma he picked up a self-released CD from David Terry produced under the name Aqueduct and went ga ga all over himself. What happened next can only be fully understood when described as every indie-lovin-bedroom-maestro’s wet dream. After relocating to Seattle, Aqueduct was promptly picked up by DCFC’s own label Barsuk, opened for Modest Mouse, had a song on the O.C., and has played well recieved shows at both SXSW and CMJ. I guess we don’t have to wonder what his choice was at the crossroads.

Descibed as a mix of Flaming Lips with Grandaddy, with a splash of Beck and the Faint, customers who like this album also bought the Arcade Fire, The Walkmen, and Rogue Wave. And well, you know it’s late when you start ripping off Amazon.com to write a review. Hey, at least I’m honest about who I’m ripping off.
