Ardent Sessions: What Made Milwaukee Famous

Ted Leo & the Phamacists - The Hitone - 11/14/05

So, we’ve finally finished the Scenestars Gallery, so look for a lot of show pics to be posted over the next week or so. One of the main reasons I wanted to redesign the site was because the middle section of the blog was too narrow to post show pictures, and I go to a lot of shows.

One of the amazing things about living in Memphis is there are good shows to see 4 or 5 times a week. The difference between Memphis and some places like NYC is that it’s not a hassle to get tickets and you can sit at the bar after the show and buy your favorite musician a drink. Memphis is really pretty low-key, most of the local bands hang out together and go to the same shows everyone else does.

When Ted Leo came a couple of weeks ago he had a cold and was doing his best just to make it through the set. He still put on a great show. I proceeded to get pretty smashed and yell “Angel’s Share!” the whole night. After the show, I stumbled up to Ted and told him I forgave him for not playing it. He was a great sport and actually remembered me and apologized for not getting back to me in time for the article I had proposed writing for The Commercial Appeal.
