My first introduction to Nick Diablo Ray of Viva L’American Deathray Music was the summer of 2004 when we took punk rock pilates together. Who could have known that I was stretching out the limbs of an underground hero of the Memphis garage rock scene? The last time I saw the band play was Valentine’s day last year and I mainly went because I heard that Harlan T. Bobo was the bass player. The band put on an earth shattering show and I was an instant fan. Then Nick moved to NYC and the band pretty much went on hiatus. So, I guess last night was kind of a homecoming show of sorts at The Bucanneer. The place was packed and anyone with any connection to the Memphis music scene was at the show, including a whole lot of people too cool to talk to me.

On a sidenote, Black Magic Sound Group, some band from Austin that opened for Deathray are a bunch of douchebags.

I was talking to one of the guys in the band and he asked me to hang out after the show, I told him that me and some friends were going back to my house and he asked if the band could crash. Taking pity on these guys, I said sure and gave him my number.

I had 4 people at my (small) house already when they finally showed up after calling for directions 3 times. But I guess we didn’t have enough beer, drugs or females, cause they went out onto the front porch supposedly to smoke, but one of them got a phone call from some other girls from the show and they got in their car and just left without saying anything.

But they left all of their sleeping gear behind - so they had to come back and send in one dude to apologize.

What a bunch of dumbasses.
