Favourite Sons - No One Ever Dies Young
Last year I signed up for the Gold Standard Labs 12 year anniversary 7″ offer. I got some great new stuff through that, one of which being the Favourite Sons 7″. The first time I played it I was simply astounded. The B-side, “Pistols & Girls” is equally impressive. I started playing it out when I DJed and more than a few people asked who it was. I told them and I wanted so bad to tell all of you but alas, I had no means by which to transfer vinyl to mp3. Sorry. But then! I got a sampler and LO! “No One Ever Dies Young” was on it! As it turns out, the GSL release was just a demo, and the song I give you now is slightly different, just slightly though, and better.
This song has it all: sexy lyrics (”you walk like such a tiger/you have no use for men/you wear that dress so nobody/will ever love again”), a hook and a timeless sound. So I’m wondering, ‘How the hell are these guys gonna make a whole album of something sandwiched between T. Rex and The Kinks?’ I have no idea, but I’m waiting. AND… while I’m waiting, I can order the EP “Treason” from Loog Records. Now the sampler that I got said that Favourite Sons would have a full length out on Vice soon, which makes sense, being that Loog is also the UK home of The Bravery. I’ll keep you informed but until then, you can always learn more for yourself at their website and their Myspace. Favourite Sons will be performing at Chicago’s Intonation Music Fest this June.
