The Flaming Lips @ Lollapalooza Plus MP3

I know that the concensus among the jaded is for the Flaming Lips to hurry up and get a new schtick, “Are they really going to do the man in the bubble gag, again?”

But I have to admit, I ate it up, and loved every bit of it.

Even though I saw The Flaming Lips open for Beck in 2002 in NYC during their tour for The Soft Bulletin, which was when they began pullin fams from the crowd and having them dress up in animal costumes and dancing on stage with flashlights, this was the first time I had seen the expanded version of their stage show. I must say, standing in the photo pit during the opening song, Race for The Prize, with confetti and balloons flying everywhere, I totally teared up. I’m not much of a hippie, but I literally could feel the energy from the crowd and at moments it was pretty overwhelming.
