The first time I saw Giant Bear I sat at the bar with my friend and got obnoxiously drunk. But I could still tell they were a really great live band. The second time I saw them last week, I was actually only there to see my friend Blair play, but they won me over again. They put on a great live show, if you get the chance to check them out I would highly reccomend it. The Memphis Flyer calls them a “southern-fried” New Pornographers - a comparison they’ll take.

Last night I met the band for a drink (or three) after they practiced. Jeff recalled that last week I mentioned that I couldn’t listen to local independent radio station WEVL because I do not have a radio, and so he bought one for me. If he didn’t have a wife, I might have fallen in love right then and there. I had a great time chatting with the band, but they wouldn’t give up the dirt on hooking up on the road. They tried to convince me that it never happens. They are all so nice, I guess I believe them.
