Badly Drawn Boy @ SXSW

March 29th, 2007 by Rachelandthecity

Back at the end of 2003 I had a ticket to see one of my favorite musicians, at the time, at the Bowery Ballroom. It was Damon Gough, aka Badly Drawn Boy. Unfortunately, I was in the middle of breaking up with my bf of five years and packing my belongings in anticipation of moving to Memphis. I had purchased the tickets for us to attend the show together, and when the show came around, I just couldn’t bring myself to go by myself. Once I got over feeling sorry for myself, I really regretted not going to that show. Badly Drawn Boy’s music is the sort that has only grown on me over the years, kind of like the anti-Killers.

Anyway, since I waited close to four years for my chance to see him again, I made it clear to my companions at SXSW that I would go pretty much anywhere they wanted to go, but I needed to be at The Fader tent on Friday to see his set. We got their early enough to make it front and center and we got some great pictures:

He only played a 20 minute set, but it was just enough to remind me how much I really love his music! I totally missed his big show later that night at Stubb’s, word on the internerd is that he covered Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” which had to have been ace…

You’re not familiar with BDB? You are so missing out…

Badly Drawn Boy - Promises - MP3

On a sepoarate note, being that close to Damon made me think that he is pretty much the flip side of Sam Beam’s coin, who you can tell is totally a fox under that ridiculous beard. But don’t take that the wrong way Damon, I’d still do you…
