St.Vincent @ SXSW

March 29th, 2007 by Rachelandthecity

One of my really exciting discoveries at SXSW was Annie Clark, multi-intrumentalist and member of Polyphonic Spree, aka St. Vincent. Sure, I know dear reader, you’ve known about St. Vincent for ages

But luckily, that’s what SXSW is all about! Catching up on all the music you might have missed while you were trying not to read all those other blogs, lest you be tainted by their tastes…oh, wait, that’s just me.

Anyway, I caught St. Vincent at Hot Freaks! and I must confess, although I was highly impressed by her performance of “Paris is Burning” with her double mic set-up, switching back and forth as she sang the lead and the back-up vocal, I wasn’t too terribly into the song. Then when I got back to Memphis I listened to “Marry Me”, and fell in love…I think that was a little TMI. I’m about to be 33, don’t judge me!!

St Vincent - Marry Me - MP3

As far as I can tell, the only record St. Vincent currently has out is a tour EP she recorded while touring with Sufjan Stevens in Europe last year. She was lucky enough to get to wear the wings! However, a full disc, that hopefully includes the amazing “Marry Me” is supposedly on the way soon. This spring Miss Clark will be touring along with another fave of mine, Mr. John Vanderslice. Of course, there are no dates even remotely near me. Anyone want to spring for a airplane ticket?? I am like totally fun to hang out with and stuff…and my clock is ticking!

Check the dates here. See more pics here. Read her blog here. Send donations to catch a plane ride here.
