Press Release

ATO Records is proud to announce Athens, GA band The Whigs have entered Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, CA to begin work on their ATO debut. The still untitled album, follows up the band’s critically acclaimed self-released effort, GIVE ‘EM ALL A BIG FAT LIP, and is being produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith, Guided By Voices).

GIVE ‘EM ALL A BIG FAT LIP, an album recorded on a college budget including recording equipment the band bought and later sold on eBay, hypnotized listeners with its tightly crafted songs and edgy power. The band toured the country relentlessly in support including a triumphant performance at this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Most of the new material for the upcoming album was written on the road and in-between tours, giving The Whigs the chance to develop the new songs naturally. This writing process is new for the band. The songs on GIVE ‘EM ALL A BIG FAT LIP were written over the course of a few years while the band attended college.

A Rolling Stone “10 Artists To Watch,” The Whigs have been hailed by Spin Magazine, Blender, Entertainment Weekly, Harp, Relix, The Washington Post, Stereogum and The Fader among many others, for their definitive teenage anthems and passionate garage rockers. In 2007, Esquire Magazine named drummer, Julian Dorio “Drummer of The Year.”

Look for the new album in early 2008 and tour dates this fall.
