Ben Nichols and Cory Branan Live from the Hitone, Memphis, TN

Since Memphis is home to whiskey rock troubadours Lucero, we’ve always been lucky to witness one-off solo shows from it’s frontman Ben Nichols.

Hearing his songs with just him and his guitar lends a different scope to his songs about drinkin’, women and being on the road. He tends to like to play with other local singers such as Blair Combest, Brad Bailey (formerly of The Glass) and Jeff Hulett of Snowglobe, however, in my humble opinion, his favorite fellow musician to trade songs and quips with is Cory Branan.

The two have been friends for years and have toured together often. While Nichols’ audience has grown substantially over the years, Branan (who is currently without a record label) has honed his skills in club after club with only his guitar and his wit as entertainment. Branan is one of the few singer/songwriters in the area that can quiet the most rowdy crowd simply with his alliteration and picken’ skills.

These guys are incredibly entertaining individually, but get them together in their hometown at their favorite watering hole, add a few cocktails, and you are in for one hell of a ride…
