Yellow Fever releases a great new single

A few weeks ago, my friend and rock co-hort Holly Cole asked me to play a show with her at Murphy’s opening for some band from Austin that (at the time) I’d never heard of. In these situations, I generally tend not to expect much . . . but I was actually quite taken aback by Yellow Fever. Not only were they affable folks, but the music was on point - stark, simple, melodic, and honest. I left the club wondering if I had blown it by not buying one of their records.

But wait - there’s more! It turns out that the band has released an excellent new 7″ titled the Culver City E.P. on the NY indie label Hugpatch . . . and thanks to the miracle of the internet, I have it! Frontwoman Jennifer Moore (ex-Voxtrot) has a truly interesting and emotive voice, both as a singer and lyricist, and the band more than capably handles her melancholy pop gems. Both songs on the single are worth a listen, but the titular A-side is especially rewarding.
