Brooklyn four-piece The Forms just announced some national tour dates for this Fall, in support of their self-titled sophomore record, which just came out October 23rd on the band’s own label, Threespheres/The Rebel Group. The tour kicks off October 30th with a record release party at New York’s Cake Shop, and wraps up November 20th at Portland’s Tonic Lounge.

THE FORMS follows 2004’s ICARUS, which caught the attention of critics and fellow bands: soon after the album’s release, The Forms were handpicked to tour with such disparate acts as The National, Death From Above 1979, The Hold Steady, OK Go and Minus the Bear; while Pitchfork gave ICARUS an 8.5 rating, writing, “The Forms craft wiry, punchy indie pop. The singer’s silvery voice soars like the album’s namesake. Keep an eye and an ear out.” Popmatters called the record “One of the best albums of the year” and praised that The Forms were “One of the most exciting, if not one of the best, new acts in indie rock right now” while Heckler Magazine proclaimed that ICARUS was “One half hour you will never forget, possibly one that will change you forever.”

For their sophomore effort, The Forms turned once again to legendary producer Steve Albini, who, along with the band, endured an intense, 50 consecutive days in the studio. The results are worth it, with The Forms taking their unique brand of post-hardcore to an ethereal and complex new level. Alternative Press wrote that the new material “[doesn’t] sound quite like anything else. Hushed vocals swell into screams while mathy piano and guitar arpeggios scatter under 5/4 beats.

It’s simple, yet proggy. Highlighting the band in their Buzzcatcher section, SPIN wrote, “The Forms take the purist’s noisy, claustrophobic sensibilities and slather on layers of towering melody and a touch of psychedelia.”
