Ardent Sessions: What Made Milwaukee Famous

2007 Festival Wrap-Up Part 4 (Austin City Limits)

January 1st, 2008 by Rachelandthecity

Austin City Limits Music Festival is one of the largest festivals in North America and if you can stand the Austin heat (which is still blazing in September), its a great place to see see live music with about 60,000 of your new best friends. While one of the highlights of my visit in 2006 was attending three tapings for the ACL PBS show that the festival was spawned from, this year’s tapings did not fit into my schedule and so I missed out on intimate performances from Wilco, Bloc Party, Regina Spektor, Crowded House, and Arcade Fire. Total bummer.

Anyway, the festival was still great and although I ended up spending most of my time in the press area -I still got to watch a lot of great performances via the feed.

Check out The Bloggeratti featuring Chris Cantalini from Gorilla Vs. Bear, Steve Selvidge, Paul Taylor, and Ross Flourney from the Broken West!

However, I did get to see a few really great performances live. One of the highlights of this year’s festival was being able to record sets from several of the performers for those BTR listeners who couldn’t make it to Texas to check it out for themselves - like:

Indigo Girls

And finally, for me, the highlight was the Indigo Girls - not that I haven’t seen them 8 times before~! It was just such a treat and honor to be able to meet them - they were after all the very first concert I ever attended. I even interviewed Amy, but I gushed so much during it that I decided not to use it.

As embaressing as it is, my friend Drue and I were in tears most of their performance, so many good memories!

I could go on and on about the after parties, our trip to Toy Joy, the food, getting our pictures made in front of the Daniel Johnston Alien Frog, hanging out with bloggers at Hot Freaks! and spending the weekend at one of my favorite band’s houses, but the whole point of going to ACL is to hear great music - so I hope you enjoy it!

But if you do ever make it to Austin - (ACL 2008 is September 26th thru 28th) you really should make it a point to go to Toy Joy!
